Semi-retired couple buck trend by upsizing

An older couple planned to downsize but when they saw the layout of a five-bedroom new-build from David Wilson Homes in Moulton they changed their mind

A semi-retired couple who had lived in their previous four bedroom home for nearly 30 years have bucked the trend and upsized to a five bedroom David Wilson home.

Anthony and Elizabeth Muff, who are both over 60, have recently moved into their brand new home at the Moulton Rise development in Moulton and have taken advantage of the extra space by turning the extra bedrooms into a study, a guestroom and a ‘so called’ man cave.

They were looking to downsize their home but fell in love with the layout of the Earlswood style five bedroom house at the development and used the housebuilder’s Part Exchange scheme to purchase it.

The Part Exchange scheme allows house hunters to purchase a brand new David Wilson home even if theirs is unsold, by buying their old home off them at a fair market value.

This means customer doesn’t have the worry of a chain falling through, won’t have to pay estate agents’ fees and will have a guaranteed buyer for their house.

Elizabeth said: “Having lived in our last house for nearly 30 years we fancied a change and were attracted to the idea of living in a brand new home which allowed space for our friends to stay over.

“We were also looking to downsize at the time as our garden was too big, but we ended up with a bigger house after going to view the development because this one suited us the most and because it’s brand new it’s much more manageable than an older home.

“The Earlswood fits us like a glove because of the flexible design of the house and light and spacious feel to it and we’ve been able to turn one of the bedrooms into a ‘man cave’ where Anthony has his gym equipment and entertainment systems.

“Our favourite features of the house are the kitchen and family room as they are both a decent size and perfect for socialising and having guests over.”

Anthony, who is a lecturer at a nearby education establishment, said: “We were attracted to Moulton Rise because it’s a small and peaceful development on the edge of the village.

“It has everything we need in easy reach and is extremely handy for me to get to work.”

Jackie Day, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “We are delighted to hear that Anthony and Elizabeth have settled into their new home at Moulton Rise.

“Moving schemes like Part Exchange are put in place to help make it easier for homebuyers to move and because of this particular scheme Anthony and Elizabeth didn’t have the worry of having to sell their own home.”

Moulton Rise, located on Boughton Road, currently has four and five bedroom homes available with prices starting from £416,995.
