Posted 19 January 2017 by Keith Osborne

We look at a handful of new homes stories from across the country, looking at schemes in London, Scotland, East Anglia, the South East and the South West...

January continues to be a very busy month in the new homes industry and here are some news stories for homebuyers around the country.

New phase of homes to be released in Basildon

Saturday 21 January sees the release of a much-anticipated new phase of new build properties in Essex from Redrow Homes at its Westley Green development in Nethermayne, Basildon.

The first phase will bring 181 three-, four- and five-bedroom houses to the scheme, all property designs from the housebuilder’s acclaimed Heritage Collection of Arts & Crafts-inspired homes which combine traditional exterior designs with modern layouts and specification. In all, the development will bring 725 new homes to the popular commuter town.

Kerry McCoubrey, sales director for Redrow Homes (Eastern), says: “Westley Green is perhaps the most highly anticipated new development in the Basildon area in recent years. We’ve been receiving a steady stream of enquiries about the homes since the outline plans were approved in 2013, but have seen an increase in the volume of people asking about the development since work started on site.”

‘Meet the Experts’ event at The Scholars in Dalkeith this Sunday

The ScholarsTaylor Wimpey is hosting a special event on Sunday 22 January at The Scholars in Dalkeith, Midlothian, where homebuyers can speak to a team of professionals about making a move to this popular development.

The free ‘Meet the Experts’ event, running from 12.00noon to 4.00pm, is a chance to talk to independent financial advisors for a ‘health-check’ on your money situation and to consult with the Taylor Wimpey marketing team on the schemes available to assist buyers, such as Part Exchange and Easymover. The new ‘Longwood’ view home will also be open for house-hunters to look around.

Karen Armstrong, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, explains: “People still want to move to a new home but are sometimes worried about getting the right mortgage deal or don’t want the hassle of selling their property. Plus, there’s so much information available on different incentive schemes that buyers can feel overwhelmed, on top of the worry of all the additional fees and costs associated with moving house.

New show home opens in Tetbury

Last weekend saw the unveiling of a brand new show home at Highfields, the Miller Homes development of 250 new build homes ten minutes’ walk from the centre of Tetbury, Gloucestershire.

The ‘Willesley’ is a four-bedroom house that typifies the Cotswold-inspired architectural design and the impressive interior specification. Both the kitchen/dining room and the lounge have French door access to the rear garden, with the latter also benefitting from a picturesque bay window. Upstairs are three bedrooms and a family bathroom, with an en suite shower room and built-in wardrobes to the master bedroom. It is open from 10.00am to 5.00pm, Thursday to Monday.

Tracey Lee, regional operations director for Miller Homes Southern, remarks: “The ‘Willesley’ is ideal for families or those looking for a little more space, and it really showcases this development. The large open space of the Cotswolds countryside is a big draw for families wanting to live the rural dream, while also being close to the local amenities around Tetbury.”

Last home for sale at development close to South Downs

Millford GrangeJust one five-bedroom house remains for sale at Millford Grange, the David Wilson Homes development in Storrington, ten miles north of Worthing on the edge of the South Downs in West Sussex.

Priced at £599,995 – just within the threshold of the government-backed Help to Buy scheme, a popular option for many new homes purchasers – the property is a generously sized family home that is just a few minutes’ drive from the A24 and the station at Pulborough, with a commute time of around 90 minutes into Waterloo or London Bridge.

Lynnette St Quintin, sales director for David Wilson Homes says: “Contrary to belief, Help to Buy is not just a scheme for first time buyers; it has helped thousands of families move up into a bigger and more spacious home, just like that at Millford Grange. As long as it is your only home and you plan to live there, the scheme is perfect for those who need to upsize but need a little help with the upfront deposit payment.”

New choice of homes on Crossrail route at Woolwich

Lovell has introduced a brand new development to a £400m regeneration  scheme in Woolwich, south-east London, giving homebuyers looking for access to the Crossrail/Elizabeth Line route another choice of apartments and townhouses.

The launch event presented details of the property choice at Trinity Walk for the first time, as well as giving house-hunters a chance to discover more about the development in an ‘immersive dome’, an innovative virtual reality feature in the marketing suite, with a show home to follow shortly.

Prices at the scheme start at £330,000, with the popular Help to Buy London assistance initiative available on all plots priced under £600,000. The properties are just a mile from Woolwich station.

Jonathan Goring, managing director at Lovell Homes, says: “Woolwich’s brilliant travel links already provide an 18-minute train journey to Canary Wharf on the DLR, and when the new Crossrail station opens, travel times will get even shorter. Our new development Trinity Walk will be a distinctive new neighbourhood for first-time buyers and families in this new property hotspot.”

The marketing suite is open daily from 10.00am to 5.00pm.
