Fun day introduces locals to The Quarry in Erith before 2017 launch

Posted 27 October 2016 by Keith Osborne

An event for local families has introduced them to the range of new homes coming to Erith in south-east London next year on a former quarry site...

Mid-October saw a family-based crowd of over 400 people and a fun day event to find out details of a brand new development of properties to Erith, which will be formally launched to buyers in spring 2017.

The Quarry will provide at least 600 new homes, most of which will be aimed at family buyers, together with a brand new primary school with over 600 places, set to open in 2018. The scheme marks the regeneration of a long-neglected part of the London Borough of Bexley that provided industry and employment to the area for nearly 200 years, until quarrying stopped in the 1960s.

The event gave local people the chance to meet developers L&Q and the Anderson Group, together with the architects Studio Egret and a specialist ecologist, enjoying a host of activities such as face-painting, panning for ‘gold’ and an appearance by the star of Cbeebies’ Minibeast Adventure, Jess French.

Visitors were also able to take a look at the site of the new development from a viewing platform providing the view to the River Thames and Rainham Marshes beyond that many of the new homes will offer.

Cathy Lloyd, sales and marketing director at L&Q, says: “The fun day was a great way to welcome the community to The Quarry and talk to people about everything this exceptional development will have to offer. Erith quarry has played an important role in the lives of local people for many years and we are pleased to be involved with the next chapter of its history.”

Andrew Jay, group managing director at The Anderson Group, adds: “We’re really excited to be working with L&Q to reimagine this vital piece of land at the heart of Erith into a sustainable neighbourhood which will deliver much needed new homes, green community spaces and a landmark primary school.”

The street layouts at The Quarry will use the site’s sloping topography to maximum advantage, with cars tucked out of sight in undercroft parking and most residents enjoying the far-reaching views towards the river. There will be a large number of very modern property designs, using plenty of glazing for the best natural light, and a modern interior specification.

The homes will be surrounded by numerous green spaces and an ecology area the size of three football pitches, all linked with a network of walkways and cycle paths.

Jess French says: “It was great to be a part of The Quarry’s fun day.  I loved chatting to local Erith children about all the amazing creatures they can find in their patch! I look forward to seeing The Quarry come to life and provide homes for lots of wildlife, as well as inspiring local people to connect with their natural environment.”
