Bridge over the River Wey? Newcourt Residential’s luxury homes in Weybridge

Posted 4 June 2015 by Tilly Rubens

If you have ever fancied yourself as a bit of a Huckleberry Finn, with access to your own island, then two luxury properties which have just come on the market with boutique developer Newcourt Residential in Weybridge may be just be up your river. There is even the possibility of adding your own drawbridge to access the private island.

The two elegant family homes are built in a traditional Georgian-influenced style, have stunning views down to the River Wey and come with their own private launch. The larger of the two luxury homes, Weston House, is 6,300 sq ft, while the show home, Alderbrook House, is slightly smaller at 6,000 sq ft. The price for both is in the region of £4million.

The houses have off-street parking with a gated driveway and a generous garage, located on a quiet and leafy residential street. The layout of both properties is similar, the major difference being an attached garage to Weston House which allows for an extra room.

High ceilings are one of the signature features of Newcourt’s high-end homes and a walk around the show home illustrates the impressive sense of space that these create in even the smallest rooms. The show home has been decorated by Newcourt’s own interiors team with a mix of furniture sourced from around the globe.

Numerous bespoke features, including wardrobes and other cabinetwork from The English Wardrobe Company, presented in neutral tones with a contemporary feel, mix with unique artworks and fittings, including a seven-metre chandelier through the helical staircase. The success of the developer’s in-house team can be measured by the company’s habit of selling their luxury show homes with their furniture and decorations intact – praise indeed from some very discerning buyers.

The ground floor has parquet flooring at the front, with an elegant reception room and the feature staircase to one side off the generous and welcoming hallway, and a cloakroom and discreet garage access to the other.

The back of the house overlooks an easy-to-maintain garden with impressive views down to the river and contains a very spacious open-plan kitchen/diner/sitting room .The luxurious kitchen is fitted throughout with Miele appliances and integrated units including a coffee machine and wine cabinet.  Every luxury that a modern Huckleberry Finn could desire, in fact. Bi-fold doors and continuous tiled flooring from the kitchen to the large patio erase the line between indoors and outdoors when the weather allows.

Off the kitchen is a comprehensive utility room but an unusual feature of the house is to have laundry facilities on the first floor, more in the American style. The theory goes that it’s easier to do the washing near the bedrooms than traipse up and down the stairs with endless washing baskets.

A grand spiral staircase leads up to the first floor. The luxurious master bedroom has a Juliet balcony which overlooks the garden and has views down to the river and beyond.

There is a substantial  dressing room with bespoke wardrobes made by The English Wardrobe Company and the en suite bathroom comes not only with a fabulous marble bath and his-and-hers basins, but even his-and-hers showers.  There are two further large double bedrooms on the first floor with en suite bathrooms and abundant, bespoke storage.

Another unusual feature on the first floor is an open-plan study situated on the landing. A sliding door could easily be fitted if a bit more privacy was needed for home working or study. However, designed as it is, you can keep an eye on the house from this quiet area and make sure the kids are not wrecking the joint.

One of the jewels of the house is the multi-functional room on the top floor of the property which has folding doors out onto the balcony and the most stunning views over the garden and river island. The room would be ideal for parties or entertaining, particularly on a warm evening when you could throw open the folding doors and have drinks out on the balcony.

The room could be used for a number of purposes either as a bar, cinema room, den or family room and could easily be adapted as a family’s needs change. The top floor has a further large three bedrooms, one with an en suite, and there is also a family bathroom..

Outside, the property has an easily maintained landscape garden which slopes down towards the river. Both houses have a private mooring, and Weston also has a boat house. Both have access to a small private island a few metres away, in the middle of the river, which can be accessed by a small boat. It’s also possible for the purchasers to create their own drawbridge for access instead.  There is also a decked area near the water which would be a perfect spot for sunbathing on a sunny day.

The two houses are located in a quiet crescent in picturesque Weybridge, which is a thriving small town. The properties are within walking distance of the High Street and the train station. The High Street has a good mixture of boutique shops, a Waitrose and local pubs and cafes. Schools in the area have an excellent reputation.

Weymouth has very good transport links into London (around 30 minutes into Waterloo by train) and easy access to the M3 and M25. The closest airport is Gatwick which is a 15-minute drive by car.

The show house is open on Saturday and Sunday between 10.00am and 4.00pm, with full details at
