8 of the best villages near Pulborough, West Sussex

Pulborough is a small town of 5,000 residents situated on the northern edge of the South Downs National Park. Located just over 50 miles from central London, the town is popular with commuters, with trains to London Victoria taking 75 minutes. The rural village feel of the area makes it popular with homebuyers retiring from city life or wanting a quieter lifestyle for their young families. The town boasts a range of shops, a supermarket, health centre, schools and sports facilities. Parts of the local church date back to the 12th century and visitors to the area can enjoy a variety of walks through the downland. 

Coldwaltham

Coldwaltham is a small village located two miles southwest of Pulborough. The 13th Century Church contains a Saxon Font and a Yew Tree, which is claimed to be over 3,000 years old. There is a small school in the village, and local events are centered on The Labouring Man inn and the Sandham Memorial Village Hall.

Codmore Hill

Codmore Hill lies one and a half miles north east of Pulborough on the A29. This tiny hamlet is surrounded by gently rolling woods and farmland, and offers a range of property types from typical cottages to newer-build homes set in woodland copses. 

Nutbourne

A small farming village, Nutbourne is popular with tourists looking to visit the vineyards and windmill. There is a pub, The Rising Sun, and a small garage, though the other village shops have now gone. 

Watersfield

Watersfield is a popular little village on the A29, three miles southwest of Pulborough. With thatched and flint cottages set in beautiful woodland, the village offers a quiet and idyllic lifestyle.

West Chiltington

West Chiltington is located four miles east of Pulborough. Its 3500 residents benefit from a church, village hall and a range of clubs and societies. With many typical Sussex cottages and a small selection of pubs and shops, the peaceful lanes of this delightful village offer a tranquil antidote to the pressures of city working.

Storrington

Storrington is located five miles southeast of Pulborough on the A283. Visitors can enjoy regular markets and fairs, and the Storrington Museum and Parham House Elizabethan Gardens are also very popular. The village has its own golf, cricket, football and tennis clubs.

Petworth

This beautiful village, set in the heart of the South Downs, offers a wide range of activities for locals and visitors alike. The centre boasts many high-quality shops, boutiques, pubs, cafes and restaurants and a wealth of organisations and activities for its residents.

Fittleworth

This village sits on beautiful River Rother, which is crossed by an ancient stone bridge, and is home to a range of typical Sussex flint and stone houses. There is a church, school and village pub, which was once a 16th Century coaching inn.
