A catch-up with Hill - WhatHouse? Awards 2015 Housebuilder of the Year

Posted 5 July 2016 by Helen Christie

Hill was hugely successful at the WhatHouse? Awards 2015, placing in several categories, as well as winning Housebuilder of the Year...

With the WhatHouse? Awards 2016 just a few months away, and entries for this year’s categories flooding in, we thought we’d catch up with Hill...

Which category were you proudest of placing in?

It was a fantastic honour to place in eight categories, including Housebuilder of the Year, but we were particularly proud of receiving gold in the Best Development category for The Scene – a ground-breaking development in Walthamstow with ISHA and Waltham Forest Council. It is one that has helped to provide an anchor for wider regeneration in Walthamstow so it was great to receive recognition for this at the Awards.

What did winning at the WhatHouse? Awards mean to the company?

We were extremely pleased and proud to be named WhatHouse's Housebuilder of the Year 2015 – it was a huge achievement by the whole team and is recognition for many years of hard work by a lot of people. It was fantastic to be recognised not just for the quality of our homes, but also for our team’s innovative design approach and our popularity with house buyers. The judges saw how much hard work goes into each and every new home, as well as our efforts to give every development its own unique character.

How has winning Housebuilder of the Year affected Hill?

Being named Housebuilder of the Year was a huge endorsement of the whole team at Hill, and the many great developments we have brought forward this year. Knowing that we’re building homes which people in the industry love has provided us with momentum and confidence to grow and achieve Hill’s 2020 plans but it has also been fantastic in boosting recognition of these quality homes amongst potential buyers, including those just stepping on to the property ladder.

What is the future looking like for Hill?

We have had a phenomenal year here at Hill, which has sparked a fantastic sense of momentum in staff across the company. We have just unveiled our new five year strategy for growth, which will see us increase the number of new homes we build in London and the South East each year to 2,500, which is incredibly exciting. We are also starting work on developments including Barton Park, which is the first significant residential scheme to be built in Oxford for many years, as well as a new regeneration scheme in Lea Bridge Road, East London, set to create 300 new homes.

Are you looking forward to the WhatHouse? Awards this year?

We are really looking forward to the next WhatHouse? Awards, where we will be hoping to retain our title as Housebuilder of the Year. Doing so will of course be a challenge, but since the last awards we have developed a very ambitious pipeline of projects, including Magna, our joint venture project with Homerton College. At each of these new developments we will continue to deliver high quality design and the craftsmanship Hill is known for.
