Show home room by room – Harwal Waterside, Silsden

Posted 21 June 2017 by Helen Christie

Creative director at Skipton Properties, Caroline Verity, explains her approach to their latest show home at Harwal Waterside in Silsden, West Yorkshire...

Caroline, creative director at Skipton Properties, takes a great deal of pride in the show homes her family business creates. Since joining her father and sister a little over five years ago, Caroline has worked hard with her interior designers to create homes that perfectly complement the quality of their homes.

A little too much colour, or too much shine, can quickly put Caroline off: "I’m not a great fan of what I call ‘shiny’ show homes, or the luxury look, which often hides the home behind the interiors. I wanted my show homes to work in harmony with the quality materials we build with and the specifications I hand select myself."

Caroline’s approach is exemplified in her recent show home at Harwal Waterside. Her brief to her designers was ‘calming, contemporary, casual and inspired by the water’ since the development is located next to the Leeds Liverpool Canal.

Entrance - Walk into the show apartment, situated in the lovingly converted Harwal Mill and you’re instantly greeted by a striking wallpaper featuring a pattern that creates impact yet doesn’t drown out the space. "Our show apartment is large with very high ceilings. I’m a fan of neutral schemes but we felt that the hallway could take a little drama."

Bedroom - "The bedroom has been designed neutrally whilst adding interest by mixing textures. We think the wood aluminium windows we’ve added to our apartments are a feature in themselves. The light they bring into the scheme, even on a cloudy day, is quite substantial."

Living and dining area - "We often design our homes open plan as it’s what we find our customers want. When designing open plan spaces, we recommend creating zones. At Harwal Waterside we have created three; one to cook and eat, another to rest and a third to work. The blues we’ve added into the neutral palette work really well considering the development’s location and the light airy space."

Bathroom - Skipton Properties install concealed bathroom systems by Ideal Standard and Hansgrohe across the development to create a contemporary bathroom that is easy to clean.

Harwal Waterside in the beautiful village of Silsden has been a hit with young families and retirees alike, offering a quiet location in a small development of only 28 homes. Residents can easily access all the amenities the town offers whilst still being able to explore further afield in Yorkshire by road or rail. The Leeds Liverpool Canal runs directly alongside the development and is a beautiful walk in either direction.

Skipton Properties have a selection of homes at Harwal Waterside, from their two-bedroom terraced ‘Gloucester’ home, priced at £179,950, to their much larger two-bedroom ‘Providence’ apartment from £219,950.
