About The Area

About

Recently voted one of the best places to live in the UK by The Sunday Times, Stamford sits near to the River Welland in Lincolnshire.  It boasts a number of 17th and 18th century stone buildings, even older timber-framed buildings and five medieval parish churches.  A pretty but thriving small town, Stamford offers new home buyers the perfect mix of a picturesque setting, a blossoming economy with successful retail outlets and easy access to other local areas.

History

The Anglo Saxons originally made Stamford a town of importance. Since then it has also been famous for its pottery, Stamford Ware, and by the Middle Ages it was recognised for its production of wool and the woollen cloth known as Stamford cloth or ‘haberget’. Originally a walled town, Stamford still retains sections of the old wall and many of original medieval buildings have been preserved.

Transport

Stamford is well covered by both rail and bus transport options. Main roads and motorways are within easy reach and offer direct travel to neighbouring towns of Marketing Deeping, Oakham, Grantham and Peterborough.

Schools

Stamford has five state primary schools and a network of nurseries and nursery schools. There is one state secondary school in the town and two independent schools just outside. Students can also travel to the nearby colleges or grammar schools for secondary education. For those looking for further education, the New College, Stamford offers a wide range of courses for those aged 16+.

Retail and Leisure

Stamford town centre is home to many independent shops and restaurants. The town draws people from a wide area for the pleasure of shopping, often in traffic-free streets. National supermarkets are represented and two retail parks situated just outside Stamford house the larger national stores.
