Grandson finds first home in street named after grandfather

Posted 24 April 2017 by Ben Salisbury

Simon Taylor and partner Amy Kay have moved into their first home at Bloor's Saxon Gate in Crewe and the street is named after Simon's war hero grandfather

A Crewe man has found his dream home on the street named after his war veteran grandfather.

Simon Taylor, 24, and his partner Amy Kay, 22, have moved into a house on Philip Taylor Drive at Bloor Homes’ Saxon Gate development off Parkers Road.

It is the couple’s first home together, and Simon said the opportunity to live on a street named in memory of his grandfather’s service during the Second World War made the move extra special.

Philip, a member of the Cheshire Anti-Tank Regiment, took part in the D-Day Normandy Landings and also served in Belgium, France, Jerusalem and Cairo. He died in January 2014 at the age of 91.

The street sign bearing his name was installed last year, and his son Mark Taylor, was invited down to the development to see it.

Simon, 24, said: “I have always been extremely proud of my grandfather’s achievements, and it is a real privilege to live on the street named after him. It makes me happy to know I can show my appreciation by purchasing a property here.

“We were previously living at home with parents but decided it was the right time and place to make our first steps to get on the property ladder.

“When the sales advisors showed us the house we fell in love with it straight away, and we were very lucky because it was the only plot available on that street.

“The house we purchased at Saxon Gate has a very symbolic meaning to Amy and I because we secured the deposit thanks to the inheritance left to me by my grandfather.”

The couple purchased a three-bedroom home at the Saxon Gate development, which is located around two miles north of the town centre.

Amy said: “We were completely taken by the house as soon as we came to see it. It is a great quality build, and the rooms are spacious and bright.

“The location was another attractive factor as it is just a short drive to both our workplaces. We are close to open countryside and have easy access to the M6 as well as a direct train link to London.

“We love the house very much, and it’s a very special feeling to walk past the sign bearing Simon’s grandfather’s name as we leave the house each morning.”

The couple were able to secure their new home with a small deposit and reduced mortgage thanks to the Government backed Help to Buy scheme.

The scheme enables buyers to secure a new build home worth up to £600,000 with just a 5% deposit and 75% mortgage. The remaining 20% is provided as an equity loan which remains interest free for five years.

Simon said: “The Help to Buy Scheme is definitely a great incentive that helps first time buyers and young couples like us to climb on the property ladder and secure a dream home.”

Commenting on the customer service the couple received, Simon added: “The Bloor sales advisors were excellent in keeping us informed all the way through completion and we would have no hesitation in recommending them.”

A range of three and four-bedroom homes are currently available at Saxon Gate, priced from £112,000 to £222,999.
