#GBBO fans - Personalise the heart of the home at Kinloch Gardens

Posted 31 August 2016 by Helen Christie

Gordon and Fiona Beveridge moved into their new Springfield Properties home in Kinloch Gardens, Rattray, Perthshire, a stunning area surrounded by rolling hills within easy reach of the Cairngorms National Park, Perth, and Dundee...

Ahead of moving into their new home, the couple decided to take the opportunity to personalise the heart of the home – the kitchen. Part of Springfield’s Choices programme means new buyers are able to pick and choose from a range of products and styles in order to help them make their home their own.

Working with a professional kitchen designer at a local supplier, Fiona and Gordon were able to create the kitchen they’d always wanted, perfectly suited to their lifestyle, tastes and requirements.

Gordon said: “We visited the Springfield show home and the Ashley Ann kitchen studio a number of times before deciding exactly how we wanted our kitchen to look and feel. We had some ideas of our own, but wanted to be absolutely certain before making any decisions, so it was great to be able to bounce ideas off their design team.

Springfield’s dedicated choices co-ordinator and the Ashley Ann designers were incredibly friendly and engaged throughout the process. They were more than happy to discuss different ideas and approaches with us before putting pen to paper. We were able to incorporate our own ideas and then alter the design to suit our tastes and requirements.

“As standard, Springfield offer a broad range of choices from a rainbow of colours for the units, tiles, and paint, to flooring styles, work surfaces, and storage facilities. This plethora of choice meant that we were able to select exactly what we wanted.”

Fiona adds: “As our downstairs is largely open-plan, it was important to us that the style of the kitchen fitted with the rest of the house. The kitchen designers were able to give us previews and examples of different combinations of colours, worktop surfaces, and types of cupboards and drawers; so we could see how they might look together.

“In the end we decided to go for a darker worktop with a solid granite finish in an L-shape to contrast with the lighter wooden storage units. I love our built-in upright fridge and it’s great to have both a full oven and micro-combo cooker. We decided that taller, floor to ceiling units with shelves would be more suitable for us when it comes to our storage and it works really well for us.

“We made a number of changes to the design of our kitchen based on the impressions Springfield mocked up for us. For example, we were able change the amount of leg room under the counter were the breakfast stools sit, and decided to have a straight rather than curved extractor hood. It was these little tweaks and changes to the kitchen that have really made it feel our own.

“We were very keen to have a separate kitchen and utility area which Springfield were able to facilitate as part of the design. This gave us a sink and utility closer to the garden and separate from our living space.”
